Mentoring is an incredibly valuable resource for beekeepers of all levels. Whether it’s a hands-on connection or a phone/email connection — having the advice and support of someone who’s “been there” is one of the best educational resources there is. And being a mentor is rewarding and educational in itself!
Attending Kalamazoo Bee Club events such as monthly meetings and field days is a great way to meet and network with other area beekeepers. Don’t be afraid to ask someone if you can exchange contact information and use them for help and advice along the way — or offer to be someone’s mentor if they are just starting out or embarking on a new beekeeping skill that you have experience with. That’s what the club is all about — supporting beekeepers!
For a more formal mentor arrangement, we recommend the mentoring network on the Northern Bee Network website. If you are interested in being a mentor, sign up on the Northern Bee Network’s site and provide the requested information. If you are looking for a mentor in your area, check out their network to find someone near you.
